(b. 1953, Tabriz, Iran) is an Iranian-Austrian sculptor. Heschmat studied at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna from 1976 to 1982, having previously worked as a sculptor in Tabriz and Tehran between 1970 and 1976. His practice reflects an exiled artist’s imaginative interpretation of home, characterised by a playful handling of form and material that carries a beautiful, childlike quality.
In addition to sculpture, Heschmat is also a poet, writing verses with few words yet layered meaning. He has created several outdoor sculptures in Tabriz and Vienna, and his works have been exhibited across Iran and Europe. He has lived and worked in Vienna, Austria, since 1983.
